I am very much obsessed to the place from where this snap was taken. The obsession comes from the nostalgic memories I have with this place. The paddy fields, the pond near by, the temples, the big banyan and what not? Every thing adds to my nostalgia. This snap portrays a typical village prospect of a woman back from her daily work.

My choice for a B&W for this was to depict the nostalgic mood of mine when I shot this. No much photographic jargons to support this snap, just my melancholy.

Colossal

My choice for this snap came from the very light that light the half rock and the pattern of the adjacent tree. I am not quite sure what made me choose this snap in B&W. Had this experience many times, certain snaps are much projected in B&W rather than in color.

Me along with two other friends were returning from Maidenahalli Blackbuck Reserve, when we decided to climb Madhugiri fort. The climb took about an hour, but the scenic beauty that welcomed us at the top was exquisite. The monolithic rock in this snap is one among the many that laze around the fort. We spent around an hour more photographing the ruined structure of the fort; it was a different experience shooting at the midday sun.

Foggy Foliage

Let me continue where I stopped in the last post, “The Spotlight”. With in natural world a photo shooter has immense opportunities, even if he misses one he always have bunch of another.

My determination this evening was to shoot the sunset over the green mountains near shirvani. To my bad luck, by the time I reached there the whole place became foggy. I was finding it difficult even to steer my car to the destination owing to deprived visibility. To add to the situation it started drizzling and the whole show was getting spoiled. Then I noticed the foliage around in the mist, they looked so different, I couldn’t resist my self exposing the camera to the drizzle.

Spot Light

Nature is always a never ending yarn in the life of any photographer. It gives him a vast arena to experiment on and come up with interesting shots. The same subject in nature is conceptualized through different angles by different photo shooters, which they feel the best. My preference for a macro on this was simply because of the water droplets on the budding flower, left outs of a short down pour. Looking back to this picture I always feel I could have given little more depth, but nothing more now, just a deep breath to console myself.

This was taken during a flower show in Bangalore, from one of the nursery outlets. The sun rays chirping through the trees around gave a spot light effect on the flower.

Luminous Touch

Vim and vigor of any photograph is the light that lights the object(s) being photographed. What ever be the jargons in photography, finally all those boils down to this five letter word LIGHT. Aperture, shutter speed, exposure and you know the list goes on. All are nothing but different techniques for molding the light that gets reflected from the objects that you want in your film. No, I should not say that as majority switched to digital; let’s agree to it as a sensor.

The best you know how to mold the very light, the best you know how to get eye-catching shots. This leaf was just like any other grape leaf from the other side nothing special, flat light falling from the mid day sun. Things changed once it was seen through the viewfinder from this side. The color tone, the details, the vibrant light all at once got a magic touch, which turned them to gold. The very same light that was falling flat on the leaf, when viewed through the leaf did the magic touch, the luminous touch. All I had to do was just to turn my viewfinder to view the light through the leaf, right metering, the gentle click and the final click, what I wanted was absorbed by the sensor. Towards the right, the image is not that crisp some f-stop between f8-f10 would have corrected that, lost is lost.

The Magic Light

I do believe that there is some fascination called magic light, or in Kenrockwell's words the magic hour. I am sure that any one who is in to photography will not offend this, that stunning images are born during these magic hours. Before dawn and after dusk it happens every day, usually we turn our faces against this unknowingly. Being said “Before dawn “, it is just a few minutes at times few seconds only, same with “after dusk”. During this moment be ready with all the gadgets in place, a tripod will be a friend in need here. The snap not taken is a snap not taken, no science, no magic can get you those moments in to your camera again.

I have missed this for the whole twenty eight years, sounds funny but that is the truth.

This was shot early morning around 6:00 am from my terrace; the saturation that you get during this point in time is mind-boggling, no exaggerations here. As this is a reality, some rocket science may explain the contrast and saturation that you get in the snaps taken during this magic time, for sure not my cup of coffee so never went behind those theories.

Lazy Lizard

“At the right place at the right moment” I always think this is the thumb rule for getting nice snaps. This snap of the lizard adds to the above statement, not sure how much appealing it is? Need to find the answer from your comments. It was a bright sunny morning, perfect for such kind of snaps. Did some bracketing shots out of which I liked this one the most. I am not sure about the exact species of this but sure that he is from the family of lizards. I waited for long to get a click right with his mouth open, but this lazy guy disappointed me.

Virtual crown

This snap came out from the inspiration that I got from the comments by Sujith Sudhi for the post “Little drops of water”. Had to do some home work to get the crown ,of course the depth, the focus and the last but not the least the color on the water surface.

One thing I learned from my experiments with water droplets is that more than photography skills you require mechanical skills and a little bit of good luck (Never mind, may be this is just my point of view). When I say mechanical, I mean the arrangement to get the drops in right place at the right moment.

The key for such snaps I think is using a perfect black tray to collect the falling drops, so there are no unwanted reflections from the bottom of the collected water. Here I used the build in flash (you can see the flash mark right in middle of the crown), but it is always apt to use an off camera flash, that points to the background, in this case a red card board that I borrowed from my son. This also explains how I got that red shades in the water.

Now every thing was in place at my balcony, took around 15 snaps to get this one.

The Beast

I wanted to take my son for a jaunt, as he started recognizing animals decided to end up in a zoo. Also had some photography plans with my new Sigma 70-300 lens at the back of my mind. That Saturday afternoon my wife, sister along with my son started to bannerghatta zoo. It was quite sunny when we started but as and when we reached the zoo it became cloudy. I reached near this beast, to my luck the sun started peeping through the clouds to add light to my snaps. Even though it was bright, but was not enough to shoot with a decent shutter speed, had to switch the ISO to 800. Took lot of snaps of this beast out of which this one I love the most.

Little Drops of Water

Was a lazy afternoon, started with some indoor macro shots without any luck. Noticed this glass of water on my table decided to go with this for the day. It took around 20-30 snaps to get to this, as you can guess, some where out of focus, timing went wrong, drops fell out of the glass the list goes on . After a long wait and practice of 2hrs, got the grip on this. The flash did its task of making the background dark. Then the blue color, the glass sits on a blue lid.

Theyaam

This was shot from my village elapully, in the district of palakkad, kerala. This was the first time I saw this ritual art being performed. It was getting performed as a part of the yearly festival at the temple near by, this was new to me and a rare art form for the people of palakkad. I was more enthusiastic to capture this art in my camera.
This is one of the most favorite shots of mine.
